Kurunegala is named with what you see in the picture. Kurune means Elephant and Gala means Rock. Does the rock in the picture looks like an Elephant? Believe it or not this is the history behind the name. To add up, Kurunegala was the Capital of Srilanka for 50 years i.e from the end of 12th century till the start of 13th century!!!
